يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى

yā rabbanā yā mawlānā ṣalli ʿalal muṣṭafā
yā rabbanā yā mawlānā ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad muṣṭafā
O our Lord, our Master! Bless the Chosen One!
O our Lord, our Master! Bless Muhammad, the Chosen One!
هَلْ مِنْ مُغِيثٍ لِي مِمَّا فِي النَّفْسِ مِنْ حُزْنٍ وَمِنْ أَسَى
قَدْ وَلَّى الْعُمْرُ فِي السَّعْيِ الْحَرَامِ فِي الصُّبْحِ وَفِي الْمَسَا
hal min mughīthin lī mimmā fīn nafsi min ḥuznin wamin asā
qad wallal ʿumru fīs saʿyil ḥarāmi fīṣ ṣubḥi wafīl masā
Can anyone save from the grief and remorse within my soul?
My life is past, spent on forbidden things from morning to night.
فِي تَرْكِ الْأَوْلَى مَقْتُ الْمَوْلَى لِلْقَلْبِ الَّذِي قَسَى
لٰكِنَّ الْبَارِي لِلْمُنَادِي مَنَّ نُوراً فِي الْقَلْبِ رَسَا
fī tarkil awlā maqtul mawlā lilqalbil ladhī qasā
lākinnal bārī lilmunādī manna nūran fīl qalbi rasā
Leaving what is right brings the Lord’s displeasure upon the hardened heart,
but the Creator blesses the petitioner with a light in the soul!
يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى
يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى

O our Lord, our Master! Bless the Chosen One!

يَا كَاشِحَ الْمُحِبِّ كَمْ تَلُومُنِي عَلَى هٰذَا الْغَرَامْ
وَالْعِشْقُ سِرُّ الْقَلْبِ لَا دَلِيلَ لَهُ إِلَّا الْمُسْتَهَامْ
yā kāshiḥal muḥibbi kam talūmunī ʿalā hādhal gharām
wal ʿishqu sirrul qalbi lā dalīla lahu illal mustahām
O denigrator of love, how you blame me for this burning passion!
But love is the heart’s secret, its only proof is infatuation
مَنْ ذَاقَ خَمْرَ الْعَاشِقِينَ ذَاقَ أَطْيَبَ الْمُدَامْ
هٰذَا صِرَاطِي مُسْتَقِيماً لَا يُنَالُ بِفَنِّ الْكَلَامْ
man dhāqa khamral ʿāshiqīna dhāqa aṭyabal mudām
hādhā ṣirāṭī mustaqīman lā yunālu bifannil kalām
Whoever tastes the lovers’ wine has tasted the sweetest drink!
Such is my path, direct and ineffable, and cannot be attained with the art of words
يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى
يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى

O our Lord, our Master! Bless the Chosen One!

سَرَى فِي لَيْلَةِ الْإِسْرَاءِ ظَاهِراً بِعَالَمِ الْخَفَا
دَنَا مِنْ رَبِّ الْعَرْشِ حَتَّى نَالَ مِنْ عَطَايَاهُ الْأَوْفَى
sarā fī laylatil isrā’i ẓāhiran biʿālamil khafā
danā min rabbil ʿarshi ḥattā nāla min ʿaṭāyāhul awfā
On the Night of Isrā’ he ascended, physically, into the Unseen realm
drawing near to the Lord of the Throne, and receiving His fullest gift.
مَا زَاغَتْ عَيْنُ الْمُصْطَفَى فَكَانَتْ عَهْداً وَوَفَا
هٰذَا النَّبِي أَدْرِكْ بِهِ نَوَالاً وَمَنَازِلَ الصَّفَا
mā zāghat ʿaynul muṣṭafā fakānat ʿahdan wawafā
hādhan nabī adrik bihi nawal an wamanāzilaṣ ṣafā
The Chosen One’s eye swerved not; a covenant fulfilled.
This is the Prophet! Attain through him grace and degrees of purity!
يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى
يَا رَبَّنَا يَا مَوْلَانَا صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدْ مُصْطَفَى
yā rabbanā yā mawlānā ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad muṣṭafā
yā rabbanā yā mawlānā ṣalli ʿalā muḥammad muṣṭafā
O our Lord, our Master! Bless Muhammad, the Chosen One!

O our Lord, our Master! Bless the Chosen One!

شَفِيعِي عِنْدَ هَوْلِ الْحَشْرِ رَافِعاً لِرَايَةِ الْآمَالْ
تَرَى الْبَرَايَا غُبْراً شُعْثاً خَوْفُهُمْ مِنْ رُؤْيَةِ الْأَعْمَالْ
shafīʿī ʿinda hawlil ḥashri rāfiʿan lirāyatil āmaāl
taral barāyā ghubran shuʿthan khawfuhum min ru’yatil aʿmaāl
My intercessor on Judgement Day, lifting high the banner of hope
Behold all mankind in dusty and in disorder, afraid to face their deeds
لَا غَوْثَ عِنْدَ ذَاكَ الْخَوْفِ حِينَ تَنْقَضِي الْآجَالْ
إِلَّا بِمَنْ عَلَيْهِ مَنَّ الْمَوْلَى بِالْقَبُولِ وَالْكَمَالْ
lā ghawtha ʿinda dhākal khawfi ḥīna tanqaḍīl ājaāl
illā biman ʿalayhi mannal mawlā bil qabūli wal kamaāl
There will be no rescue from that dread, when all lives have been spent
but through him whom God blessed with acceptance and perfection.
