يَا سَعْدَ قَوْمٍ بِاللَّهِ فَازُوا
وَلَمْ يَرَوْا فِي الوَرَى سِوَاهُ
yā saʿda qawmin billāhi fāzū
walam yaraw fīl warā siwāhu
O, how felicitous are a people who attained Allah!
And saw nothing in existence except Him!
قَرَّبَهُمْ مِنْهُ وَاجْتَبَاهُمْ
فَنَزَّهُوا الفِكْرَ فِي عُلَاهُ
qarrabahum minhu waj tabāhum
fanazzahūl fikra fī ʿulāhu
He drew them near to Him and chose them
So their minds declared Him to be free from every imperfection
لَيْسَ لَهُمْ لِلْسِوَى التِفَاتُ
كَيْفَ وَقَدْ شَاهَدُوا سَنَاهُ
laysa lahum lilsiwat tifātu
kayfa waqad shāhadū sanāhu
They have no inclination to anything other than Him
How could they when they have witnessed His exaltedness?!
أَزَالَ حُجْبَ الغِطَاءِ عَنْهُمْ
فَاسْتَنْشَقُوا نَفْحَةَ هَوَاهُ
azāla ḥujbal ghiṭā’i ʿanhum
fas tanshaqū nafḥata hawāhu
He removed the veil of His covering from them
So they inhaled a whiff of His love!
تَجَلَّى بِالنُّورِ وَالبَهَاءِ
لَهُمْ فَقَالُوا يَا هُوَ يَا هُو
tajallā bin nūri wal bahā’i
lahum faqālū yā huwa yā hū
He manifested light and splendor
to them, so they said, "O He Who is! O He Who is!"
فَقَالَ أَنَا لَكُمْ مُحِبٌ
رَبٌّ كَرِيمٌ نِعْمَ الإِلَهُ
faqāla anā lakum muḥibun
rabbun karīmun niʿmal ilahu
So He said to them, "I am your Lover!"
What a generous Lord! What a wonderful God!
أَقْبَلُ مَنْ تَابَ مِنْ عِبَادِي
وَلَا أُبَالِي بِمَا جَنَاهُ
aqbalu man tāba min ʿibādī
walā ubālī bimā janāhu
I accept those who repent from among My slaves
And I do not care what they have done!
المُلْكُ مُلْكِي وَالأَمْرُ أَمْرِي
وَالعِزُّ عِزِّي فَادْخُلْ حِمَاهُ
almulku mulkī wal amru amrī
wal ʿizzu ʿizzī fad khul ḥimāhu
The Kingdom is My Kingdom! And the Command is My Command!
And the Might is My Might! So enter His sanctuary!
مَا ذَاقَ طَعْمَ الغَرَامِ إِلّا
مَنْ عَرَفَ الوَصْلَ أَوْ دَرَاهُ
mā dhāqa ṭaʿmal gharāmi illā
man ʿarafal waṣla aw darāhu
None knows the taste of passion except
Those who know union!
مَا قُلْتُ لِلْقَلْبِ أَيُّ حِبِّي
إِلَّا وَقَالَ الضَّمِيرُ اللهُ
mā qultu lilqalbi ayyu ḥibbī
illā waqālaḍ ḍamīru Allahu
Never did I say to my heart, "Who is my beloved?"
Except that it said, "Allah!"
إِنِّي إِذَا مَا ذَكَرْتُ رَبِّي
أَهْتَزُّ شَوْقاً إِلَى لِقَاهُ
innī idhā mā dhakartu rabbī
ahtazzu shawqan ilā liqāhu
Whenever I remember my Lord,
I tremble in longing to meet Him!
أَهِيمُ وَحْدِي بِصِدْقِ وَجْدِي
وَحُسْنُ قَصْدِي عَسَى أَرَاهُ
ahīmu waḥdī biṣidqi wajdī
waḥusnu qaṣdī ʿasā arāhu
I roam alone in my true ecstasy;
and my beautiful endeavour is that I may perhaps see Him!
فَانْظُرْ إِلَى الكَوْنِ بِاعْتِبَارٍ
فِي أَرْضِ مَوْلَاكَ وَسَمَاهُ
fan ẓur ilal kawni biʿ tibārin
fī arḍi mawlāka wasamāhu
So look at the universe with reflection
Within the earth of your Master and His heavens!
وَاسْمَعْ إِذَا غَنَّتِ المَثَانِي
تَقُولُ يَا هُو لَبَّيْكَ اللهُ
was maʿ idhā ghannatil mathānī
taqūlu yā hū labbayka Allahu
And listen when praises of Him are sung
Say, "O He Who is! I'm at your service, Allah!"
ثُمَّ الصَّلَاةُ عَلَى الرَّسُولِ
مُحَمَّدٌ رَبُّنَا اصْطَفَاهُ
thummaṣ ṣalātu ʿalar rasūli
muḥammadun rabbunaṣ ṭafāhu
Then, blessings be upon the Messenger!
Muhammad, whom our Lord chose!
