wishlūn anāmal lalyl wishlūn anāmuh
ḥabībī muḥḥamad jawhar kalamuh
How can I sleep at night, how can I rest?
My beloved Muhammad, his words are jewels
saffin billāh yā saffan dīris safīnah
ānwar abal qāsim lāḥit ʿalaynā
Sail in God's name, O sailor, steer the ship
The lights of Abu al-Qasim have shone upon us.
yārāfiqal ʿurbān wash rab labanhin
kulliṣ ṣaḥābah njūm ṭaha qamarhin
Accompany the Arabs and drink their milk
All the companions are stars, Taha is their moon.
yā ṭayraṭ ṭāyir fūq abyaḍ yā bū jnāḥ
sallim ʿalā abaz zhrā’ qulluhal ʿumur rāḥ
O flying bird above, white-winged one,
Greet the father of Zahra and tell him the minds have gone.
yā ṭayraṭ ṭāyir fūq akhḍar yā bū rīsh
sallim ʿalā ṭaha qulluh darāwīsh
O flying bird above, green-feathered one,
Greet Ṭāhā and tell him we've become dervishes
mā rīda amūtal yawm kafnī ʿabātī
dizzū ʿalā ṭaha yiḥḍar wafātī
I do not wish to die today, my cloak is my only shroud
Send to Ṭāhā so he may attend my death
